Through her grandmother from her mom’s side, she is also Bosnian and her household is stated to be of Muslim origin. In terms of language, her native tongue is English with a British accent and she also speaks Albanian.

Growing up Dua was influenced by her dad who is a lead singer and guitarist for the rock band Oda and Kosova while her mother trained in travel and tourism. Her father often played music at home including his own music and plenty of songs by classic artists such as Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Radiohead, and more.

It appears Dua’s father dabbled in quite a bit as before but he was pursuing a career in dentistry when they moved back to London her parents were simply trying to make ends meet for the family.

Growing up in London Dua enjoyed her childhood and started singing herself at the young age of five. She credits this to her creative parents, especially her musician father who always had music playing at home as Dua told ABC news.

In an interview she said that her parents never pressured her to pursue music, it just came naturally to a young Dua who enjoyed putting on-at-home concerts for her parents’ dinner guests. Either way, her parents have always been her biggest fans.

Growing up in Hamstead London, Dua attended Fitzjohn’s Primary School and took music lessons learning the cello. When she auditioned to join the school choir the teacher told her she couldn’t sing which led Dua to start singing lessons at the age of nine. She took them on the weekends at the Sylvia Young Theater School. Before Dua was born her parents had just fled their native country Kosovo in 1982 and the war came.

Since Dua was already involved in her heritage she was excited to move to Pristina the Capital of Kosovo in the 2000s, despite being a new girl in school in a new country. The new area she lived in was much safer than the London neighborhood where the Lipa’s previously lived. While there she attended Third Millennium School and started to seriously consider her career in music going to concerts with friends at the age of 13.

After attending her first concert Dua soon discovered rappers such as 50 Cent her second concert and Snoop Dogg. At this time Dua’s father also worked for a Telecom company that helped bring popular concerts to Kosovo. While Dua enjoyed her time living in Kosovo she realized the UK would be better for her to pursue a music career.

At the age of 15 Dua moved back to London completely on her own, she moved in with her older friend who was in Grad school which made Dua’s parents feel much safer about the move. In London, she continued school finishing her education at Parliament Hill Girls School while attending the Sylvia Young Theater school part-time.

Soon enough though Dua decided to focus on music full time when she opted for music over University her parents were spectacle but supportive and these days they traveled with Dua whenever they can. Keeping the worldwide superstar as grounded as possible in her roots in London and Kosovo.

In her teens, she took to SoundCloud and YouTube to upload her songs as social media seemed to be the easiest way to reach an audience. Dua Lipa posted videos of herself covering songs by artists like Christina Aguilera and Alicia Keys.

At the same time when Dua was 16 years old, she also started modeling signing with an agency but she was closer to her dreams of being a singer. She modeled for the British Multinational retailer fashion company called TopShop and some more, but it was a short-lived career.

Dua was only in modeling to get contacts, however, her plans did work in a sense as she got role-played as a singer in an advertisement for The X Factor in 2013 where she got to cover the song titled Lost in Music. Dua also got herself a producer and manager.

As a young artist, she continued to build a formal portfolio to show off her music skills and soon began receiving requests from producers offering her to use their studios. Eventually when Dua was working as a waitress in a bar, Tap Management director by Ben Mawson and Ed Millett, also the agency that represents Lana Del Rey discovered Dua and her unique voice and offered to manage her.

Tap also offered Dua a monthly salary to leave her job and concentrate only on creating music. When she started music and getting her creativity flowing Dua told clash wanted to sound like a combination of J Cole and Nelly Furtado, a style that she is now dubbed dark pop.

During one of her studio sessions with Tap Dua co-wrote the song titled Hotter Than Hell which would eventually lead to her record deal with Warner Bros. Records in 2014. In the following year, Dua Lipa dropped her first single New Love and her second single Be the One had success in Europe even reaching number 1 in some countries. Her first tour in the UK and Europe commenced in January 2016 and went on until November of the same year.
